There is no Frigate like a Book - Emily Dickinson

Story Cubes

With the advent of Rory's Story Cubes, new possibilities in second language acquisition have popped up in the classroom limited only by the imaginations of the language learners.

Below, you'll find a collection of activities and themes that you can download and use with Rory's Story Cubes (or with any story dice type game).

You can get Rory's Story Cubes on their site, or if you are working in an LRC (CRL) you can simply ask your teacher for them.  If you don't have access to a set of story cubes, don't worry, just use the "first lines" on the activity sheets as story starters.

Once Upon a Time...

Creating stories is only limited by your imagination.  The hardest part is getting started.  Using the images on Rory's Story Cubes you can easily spark  your imagination and create a story worthy of the great storytellers or history.  Using any set of story cubes and the downloadable sheet on the left, activate your imagination and create your own "once upon a time" adventure!

Associating images with words is a quick way to help you recall vocabulary in your second language.  Using the sheet on the right, and any set of Rory's Story Cubes, challenge yourself and see how many words you can discover while looking at the images on the cubes.

Make a game of it and challenge your friends to see who among you can find the most words!

Game of Thrones

Whether you tell your story in High Valerian or English, you get to decide who live and who dies in your very own Westerosian adventure.

To create your adventure in a land where kings and commoners battle for power and against an ancient evil you'll need the Rory's Story Cubes sets, Medieval, Enchanted and Adventure, a pen, paper and a raven to send your story to your friends.

Star Wars

Making the jump to hyperspace has never been easier!  With the Rory's Story Cubes sets Intergalactic mixed with the original set, your adventure in that galaxy far, far away is just a matter of a few parsecs. (12 to be exact.)

Sci-Fi Adventure

Whether you're a fan of Star Trek, Dr. Who, Star Wars or other science fiction/fantasy series, you have many ways of sparking your imagination.  Here this sheet provides you multiple methods of creating your story!

Harry Potter

Hidden deep from the view of muggles lies the world of magic.  Break the barrier by creating your own story full of mystery and magic!

Grab a quill, a piece of parchment and the Rory's Story Cubes sets; Fantansia or Enchanted and  you're on your way to Hogwarts!

Take part in the longstanding Halloween tradition of storytelling!

Using your imagination and either the original set of Rory's Story Cubes or a combination of Horror, Clues and Enchanted, create your very own tale of horror!

Super Hero vs. Super Villain

We all love superheros, from Aquaman to Wonder Woman.  But you can't have a good super hero without a good super villain!  Use this sheet and a set of original Rory's Story Cubes and Powers to create your very own hero and villain characters to use in your other stories.  Let the adventure continue!
